The Blind will cover the total window area and to be fitted to the window frame. Width: Measure the EXACT outside width of the window (as per illustration). Drop: Measure the EXACT outside drop of the window (as per illustration). If you have no architraves – to minimize light gaps and obtain maximum privacy, add 20mm to 75mm on each side of the window frame.

Blinds can be mounted either within the door frame or on the outside of the door frame. When considering the best fit take into account any obstructions such as door handles and bars and also the depth of the door frame. It is highly recommended that two blinds be fitted into a sliding patio door for greater versatility as well as ease of use. Please keep in mind – one big blind – always look better. Simple step-by-step measuring instructions for how to measure blinds

Measuring your windows for blinds is simple, just follow our step-by step instructions below. Fitting is just as easy – click here to see the fitting instructions or use the link at the bottom of the page. Before you do any measuring you’ll need to decide if you want your blind to sit inside the window recess or hang outside. Measuring tips: It is best to use a metal tape measure. Look out for window handles and the positioning of tiles at the top and bottom of your window. You should also think about how your window opens. Take measurements from an area that is in front of your window handles so the blind will move up and down when you fit it here, or left to right and wise versa. For a neat fit that blocks out the light choose to fit your blinds inside the recess. For windows that aren’t straight or have lots of obstructions choose to fit your blinds outside the recess.

Blinds inside the recess – “Inside measurement”

If you choose to fit inside the recess, choosing the recess option when ordering your blinds, the blind will be made to fit perfectly inside your window. Just follow the simple steps below: 1. Measure the width of the recess from wall to wall in three places as shown. Write down the shortest measurement – this is the one we’ll use. 2. Measure the drop by taking the measurement from the top of the recess to the windowsill in three places as shown. Write down the shortest measurement. 3. Order a samples book. 4. Choose your fabric and place your order! All recess blinds are reduced by our factory to take into account the size of the head-rail and components to ensure a perfect fit. Please do not make any adjustments to your measurements we do this for you. Blinds “inside” the recess – please provide us with exact measurements. Below is a guide of the reductions we will make when we receive your order. Vertical blinds = approximately 10 mm width, and 5 mm off louvers. (40mm for Head-rail height and 10 mm for the gap between louver and windowsill/floor.) Venetian blinds = approximately 10 mm in width and 10 mm drop. Wooded “ Venetian blinds”  = approximately 10 mm in width and 10 mm drop. Roller blinds = approximately 10 mm in width and 30 mm from the actual fabric. Roman blinds = approximately 10 mm in width – if your blinds are going to be fitted “inside”. Woodflex blinds = approximately 10 mm in width, and 10 mm drop.

Blinds outside the recess – Exact measurements

If you choose to fit outside the recess, choosing the exact option when ordering your blind, the blind will be made to your exact measurements. Just follow the simple steps below: 1. Measure the width of where you’d like your blind to be. 2. Measure the length from the top of where you want your blind to be to the bottom. This is the drop measurement. 3. Order our sample book. 4. Choose your fabric and place your order! Important Note for Roller Blinds – When ordering an EXACT roller blind the actual fabric will be made approximately 30 mm less in width due to the headrail’s control units. If you would like your EXACT width measurement to be your actual fabric width, you will need to add 30 mm to the measurement. Please email to us – or call and discuss the details. Important Note for Vertical Blinds – When ordering EXACT vertical blinds the width you order will be EXACT but the drop will be approximately 5-10 mm less as we take 50 mm off our louvers (4cm for Head-rail height and 1cm for the gap between louver and windowsill/floor.) All blinds from “1B Blinds” are made-to-measure to your specified requirements, so please double check all your measurements before completing your order.
